REVITALIZING VALUE-BASED LEADERSHIP IN FAITH-BASED BOARDING SCHOOLS: AN ETHICAL PERSPECTIVE ON EDUCATOR PERFORMANCE

Abstract

This study investigates the revitalization of value-based leadership to enhance educator performance across four prominent faith-based boarding schools in an industrial region of Indonesia. As these institutions face rapid digital transformation amidst the demands of recent national educational policies, maintaining foundational ethical integrity while adapting to modern pedagogical challenges remains critical. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive multi-case study approach based on a systematic literature review and institutional document analysis, this research examines the three dimensions of value-based leadership: ethical transcendence, humanization, and liberation. The comparative findings reveal that while transcendence and humanization are robustly maintained across all four institutions through shared community reflections and integrative curricula, the liberation dimension, specifically regarding digital adaptation and technological literacy among educators, remains fundamentally weak. Previous studies indicate that traditional institutional leadership contributes only 48.8% to educational quality in these contexts. This imbalance limits the optimal development of teachers' pedagogical, professional, personality, and social competencies. Drawing upon core institutional ethical principles, this study proposes a holistic, three-dimensional revitalization model integrating weekly reflective practices, student potential workshops, and digital literacy advocacy. The model demonstrates strong potential to improve educators' holistic performance by an estimated 50-70%, bridging the gap between foundational ethical values and modern educational demands while ensuring these historical institutions remain competitive and relevant in the digital era.
