IMPACT OF CASE-BASED TEACHING ON LEARNING MOTIVATION AND CLASSROOM ENGAGEMENT IN E-COMMERCE EDUCATION: EVIDENCE FROM CHINESE VOCATIONAL SCHOOL
Abstract
The high rate of growth of e-commerce education in vocational programs has revealed constraints of the traditional teaching methodology on lecture rooms to foster student interest and participation. Interactive pedagogies are demanded to interact between theoretical and applied information in dynamic learning environments that employ digital tools. This paper examines case-based instruction with regard to motivation, engagement and practical learning outcomes in Chinese e-commerce vocational learning contexts. The qualitative method was adopted through semi-structured interviews of 5 students and 5 teachers. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data with Atlas.ti to establish patterns and themes. The Atlas.ti analysis showed that five themes are present: motivation, engagement, practical knowledge, career awareness, and teaching effectiveness. Case-based instruction not only improved active learning, self-motivation, practical knowledge, and team learning, but also increased student confidence and professional skills and career opportunities awareness. Case-based instruction form is an efficient method to make vocational education better in terms of motivation, engagement and applied learning and helpful in construction of constructivist learning, and the adaptation of students toward real-world e-commerce workforce.
